An Information System is a set of elements that interact to support the activities of a company or business
An Information System performs four basic activities:
- information input: a process in which the system takes the data required to process the information through workstation, keyboard, floppy disks, magnetic tapes, bar code etc.
- Information storage: One of the most important activities that have a computer, and that through this property the system can recall the information stored in the session or the previous process.
- Information Processing: this feature of the systems allows the transformation of the source data into information that can be used for making decisions, making it possible, among alia, that a decision maker to generate a financial projection based on data that contains an income statement or a balance sheet in a base year.
- output information: is the ability of an IS to get the information processed or outside input. Typical units of output are printers, plotters, magnetic tapes, diskettes, voice, etc.
